A Continuous Service Award was issued on Thursday, October 12th, 2023, at the John E. Jacobs American Legion Post #68 Leland, NC . Mr. Edward Wojton Jr. of Winnabow, NC was recognized by both Post #68 and the Noth Carolina Department of the American Legion for 50 years of commitment to his fellow veterans and community. Member Wojton also received a signed letter from the American Legion National Commander congratulating him on 50 years of service!
Post 68 is all about Veterans serving Veterans in the Leland, NC area. We also provide support for North Brunswick High School JRTOC. We are very active in our community.
American Legion Post 68 is one of the fastest growing Legions in North Carolina. Originally founded in 1973, the post was revived in 2014 and has benefitted from the fast population growth in Brunswick County, NC. In 2019 Post #68 was renamed to honor PFC JOHN EDWIN JACOBS, a soldier in the United States Army and the only service member from Leland, North Carolina listed as a casualty in the Vietnam War. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart and was laid to rest in his family’s private cemetery, where a memorial now marks the resting place of their hero. Pfc Jacobs is listed on panel 42W, line 057 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington, DC.
Post 68’s charter stipulates that the Post will hereafter be named the John E. Jacobs American Legion Post 68, Leland, NC, Inc., Department of North Carolina.
