Following a 20-year military career, decorated Army Gulf War veteran First Sergeant (1SG) George Williams became an Instructor for the North Brunswick High School (NBHS) Army JROTC Program in July 1999. Under his tutelage, the NBHS JROTC Rifle Team has consistently outperformed its competitors at both the state and national levels, including earning first-place honors for the Army and 5th in the nation across all services in the JROTC National Air Rifle Championship Sporters Division in Ohio on March 25, 2023.
With 1SG Williams’ stalwart leadership, the rifle team continues to uphold its solid record of wins. The team’s recent victory in the 2024 ‘Best of the Best Match’ is a testament to their dedication. As in previous years, 1SG Williams will now lead the team to compete in the Army Championship in Anniston, Alabama, in February 2024. There, they aim to qualify for the JROTC All-Service National Championships at Camp Perry, Ohio, demonstrating their continued commitment to excellence.
The team’s victory in the 2024 ‘Best of the Best Match’ was marked by several personal best achievements. Miguel Gonzalez’s impressive score of 555 earned him 1st Place overall and the title of #1 Shooter in the Brigade. His unwavering dedication to the NBHS JROTC program over the past twenty-plus years has been instrumental in the team’s success and has earned them recognition annually as a JROTC Honor Unit of Distinction. 1SG Williams is a consummate professional who, during his tenure, has molded the NBHS JROTC into one of the best JROTC programs in the State and the Nation.
