Post 68 Awarded Grant

COmmittee to honor veterans grant to Post 68

On November 11th, Veterans Day, John Corbett (COL, US Army Retired), Chairman of the
Committee to Honor America’s Veterans (CHAV), presented Legion Post 68 a grant award of
$5,000 to support Post 68’s work in the community concerning raising suicide awareness among
veterans through its Be the One program. John Hacker, 1st Vice Commander, and Eric Mens,
Public Affairs Officer, represented the Post. Hacker is the State Chair for the American Legion’s
Be the One program.

Due to anticipated inclement weather, CHAV made the presentation in Firehouse No. 1, Sunset
Beach, NC. Keynote Speaker, retired four-star Admiral Karl L. Shultz, provided a stirring speech
to the audience, during which he paid a heartfelt tribute to several WW II veterans, veterans from
all the service branches, and First Responders, acknowledging their service and sacrifice.
