In working to meet its commitment “to enhance the well-being of America’s veterans, their families, our military, and our communities by our devotion to mutual helpfulness,” Leland’s John E. Jacobs American Legion Post 68 recently contributed to disaster relief efforts responding to needs emerging from this year’s disastrous storms. These included a $1,000 donation to the American Legion National Emergency Fund for Legion members, a $2,000 donation to the Army Aviation Heritage Foundation for arial relief operations in western North Carolina, and a total of $3,000 to local veterans affected by storm damage from flooding.
The ability to provide monetary relief to veterans and their families affected by this year’s storms has been made possible, in part, through the Leland community’s extraordinary support of the Post’s annual Veterans Day Charity Golf Tournament. The tournament will be held again on Thursday, November 7th at the Magnolia Greens Golf Course, 1800 Tommie Jacobs Drive, Leland. All tournament slots have been filled.
The Post will also hold a silent auction in conjunction with the Tournament. Members of the greater Leland community are invited to participate in the auction. The current catalog of auction items can be viewed at https://ncpost68.org/. Keep checking because we add items frequently. If you see an item you like, you can email a pre-bid to Scott Wargo at wargoos@yahoo.com. The Auction will close on November 7th at 3:30 PM. Proceeds from auction items will go towards Post 68 programs that support community veterans and their families.
Post 68 meets at 6 pm every third Thursday in the Blossoms Restaurant Banquet Room (1800 Tommie Jacobs Drive, Leland, NC). For those who want to participate, members gather at 4:30 pm in Blossoms Restaurant for dinner and a social hour preceding the meeting. To learn more about how veterans can join our organization or what we bring to our veterans and community, visit https://ncpost68.org/. Next meeting date: Thursday, November 21, 2024.
