The Memorial Day Weekend is time to remember our veterans by getting together and enjoying this beautiful country that we live in. It is a reminder that the people are what make this land what it is and the best of what humanity can do with hopes and ambitions to continue to improve our condition. Memorial Day spotlights the ultimate sacrifices made by our citizens in the military to preserve and protect our freedoms. Below is a poem about those sacrifices expressed through the Poppy flower.
The John E. Jacobs American Legion Post #68, Leland NC is an exemplary example of how veterans continue to contribute to the community and supporting those who have served in our military. Led by Commander John Hacker, Post #68 is a member of the local chamber of commerce, co-sponsors blood drives with community businesses and the Red Cross, among other community-oriented activities. Post members are involved with several projects to assistance our local veterans from rebuild damaged homes to guiding fellow veterans to and through healthcare programs.
The present Post leadership are taking the initiative by building a new program to raise Suicide Awareness within our Community. With grant funding, they will be conducting outreach and educational programs that will aid those contemplating suicide.
