Members of Post #68,
There are a number of things coming up quickly for the post and I want to pass them on to everyone. All of these items are on the post webpage so be sure to check the calendar often at
The post-election for officers is coming soon so if you have any interest in being involved in the planning of post events and decisions be sure to get your name to the Election Committee chair, Dan Dodge. There are openings for both Executive Board and Appointed positions.
Our Second Vice Commander Jamie Becker is looking for volunteers to help at the Boiling Springs Craft Fair. This is a monthly event and is listed on the calendar. Jamie needs assistance or we won’t be able to continue there. This is a good fundraiser for us and can be a fun day. Contact Jamie or leave a message for me or Dan Dodge.
April has a few events where can use volunteers.
On Saturday April 2nd there is a Boiling Springs Craft Fair scheduled and Jamie needs 3 or 4 people for a few hours either in the morning starting at around 8:30am to set up or from 11am til 2 pm.
On April 16th from 11am til 2pm, Lane Adair, our Veteran Service Officer and Commander of the only Legion Riders Chapter in Brunswick County is holding a hot dog fundraiser at the Carolina Coast Harley Davidson on Market St in Wilmington. He would appreciate your help for an hour or 2 or all day, it’s a fun day plus you get to see a lot really good people and a lot of really neat bikes!
Also, our Fish Fry is scheduled on April 23rd from 10am for set-up until 3:30pm, with meals being distributed by 11am. It’s be held again as a drive up-pick up event at 1370 Lanvale Dr in Leland. The owner of Dean’s Performance and Auto has once again offered the use of the area in front of his business. I need about 15+ volunteers to work this event. People are needed to guide vehicles around the loop, to collect and to sell tickets, to pack the meals and hand them to our customers and helpers for the cooks that, although not members, have worked with John Cook a past commander and a dedicated member and supporter of Post 68.
This is a major fundraiser for supporting our veteran services as well as family and youth programs so your participation is important.
I am also looking for a couple of members to step up and help take a lead on this event so if you’re interested, please let me know.
As you can see, we have a few things going on in April, but hang on now, May is right around the corner!
We are holding the second of our quarterly Red Cross Blood Drives on May 13th. There is a BSL Fair on the 21st. Poppy Day is on Friday May 30th. Memorial Day May 30th is the day for placing flags at the gravesites of our local veterans. And finally past commanders and PEC members Jim Zelenski and Alan Simmons are hosting a free Post pancake breakfast on May 29th from 7am -11am at the Brunswick Forest Community Center. This is open to all members and their spouses, or significant others.
Do not forget we have a couple of ongoing raffles that being offered first the new Summer Basket which is prepared by Jim and Debbie Zelenski, is now available and we have a Stars and Stripes patriotic quilt, handmade by Barb Fortini. Both of which will be on display at our events as well as our monthly meetings. Tickets for both are 1 for $5 or 3 for $10.
I know this is a long message but I have a feeling that some members aren’t taking the time to go to the Calander to see what’s happening. As I have said before Post 68 will only continue to grow and to serve our brother and sister veterans if we all are involved and participate, remember this isn’t just Post 68 this is your Post 68!
Thanks ,
